The 2015 Orroroo Half Marathon was held on Sunday 22 March, a beautiful sunny day with very little wind, perfect weather!
161 competitors lined up for the various races;
- 21Km Run – 26
- 21Km Walk – 1
- 10Km Run – 35
- 10Km Walk – 24
- 5Km Run – 47
- 5Km Walk – 28
We welcomed visitors from interstate, Adelaide metro area (23), and regional South Australia (36), with a contingent of 38 from Port Augusta. Sixteen staff, students and families from The Willyama High School in Broken Hill paid a return visit for this year’s race. It is great to see many regular runners who have participated in a number of our events, and who enjoy the day with friends and family.
Businesses in the Orroroo main street were open for business on the day, with ‘The Gumtree Café’, ‘Maggie’s coffee shop’, IGA and the two hotels opened for lunch. The Lions Cub had their barbeque stoked up and busy most of the morning for visitors and locals. The ‘Store on Second’, Orroroo’s iconic gift, homewares and fashion retailer also enjoyed a very busy morning. The local market at the Blacksmith’s Chatter also enjoyed a busier than normal morning as a result of the race and visitors.
Unfortunately the electronic timing gremlins gave race officials a headache this race, and although we were able to identify place getters, many times were invalid. We apologise to all runners and walkers who were unable to access the official times, however the times given in most cases were with in seconds of the correct time, but this is why there are no times identified on this website.
Congratulations to the Half Marathon Winners: John Csongei (1:20:25) and Nadene Gillett (1:38:55).
Both John and Nadene are regular competitors and placegetters. Runners up were Shaun Ton and Ann-Louise Breeding.
Other place getters were:
Male 10K Run: Reece Wright, R/U Brad Breeding
Female 10K Run: Raeleen Podger, R/U Renae Kretschmer
First Orroroo local: Andrew Kuerschner
Male 10K Walk: Stephen Brooks
Female 10K Walk: Rebecca van Holst Pellekaan.
All Primary students who completed their nominated distance received a medal.
The Orroroo Community Gym Committee would like to thank all the amazing volunteers who give up their Sunday morning to make this race so successful. In spite of the odd glitch every so often, it is such a pleasure to welcome so many great competitors who love running, and their families and visitors to our town.
